exciting music by a young generation of composers
concert within Gaudeamus Muziekweek Festival
Silbersee presents an awesome programme in one of Utrecht’s oldest church buildings, the wonderful and intimate Pieterskerk.
Anna Korsun won the Gaudeamus Award 2014 and she is back to experience the premiere of her latest composition, Ulenflucht. “Korsun’s music is extremely communicative and will affect even unsuspecting laypersons … breath-taking,” as Thea Derks wrote in a review.
The programme includes Madhye II, written by nominee Shih-Wei Lo. A startling work for six voices and computer (surround sound). The pre-recorded sounds are processed live until they combine into a virtual choir.
In combination with pieces by Christian Mason, Samantha Fernando, and Jerzy Bielski the evening’s programme offers an overwhelming vocal experience. All the more so in the Pieterskerk’s gothic sanctuary!
Shih-Wei Lo (TWN) – Madhye II (2015)
Anna Korsun (UKR) – Ulenflucht (2016)
Christian Mason (GBR) – Somewhere between us (??)
Samantha Fernando (GBR) – Look up (2016)
Jerzy Bielski (POL) – new pieces (2016)
